FAQ

HOW SAFE IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is extremely safe. It is an all-natural, drug-free therapy, yielding no side effects just feelings of relaxation and well-being. There is little danger of infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile, used once, and then discarded.

DOES IT HURT?

Most of the time people are scared because of their experience receiving injections from their doctor. An acupuncture needle is several times smaller than the hollow-type needle you are familiar with, and relatively painless. It is more like a cat's whisker. You will hardly notice it going in.

WHAT CAN ACUPUNCTURISTS TREAT?

Acupuncture is recognized by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in the treatment of a wide variety of medical problems including: ...read

DO YOU WORK WITH CHILDREN?

I do work with children. I do not use needles with children under 9. Because children are highly sensitive and may not like to sit long I prefer to use Tui Na medical massage and stick-on seeds which invigorate the energy similar to acupuncture needles. I may also recommend diet modification and herbal therapy.

I DON'T LIKE NEEDLES. CAN YOU STILL HELP ME?

I offer several modes of treatment which can help. For certain ailments, I may strongly recommend Acupuncture but we can attempt (click) other treatments if your aversion is that strong. Stick-on seeds can be applied for a wonderful pain-free benefit,  while Tui Na medical massage, herbal therapy, diet therapy, moxabustion, and exercises are also useful in helping you feel better.

MY DOCTOR CAN'T FIND ANYTHING IN MY MRI OR X-RAY. CAN YOU HELP?

Though imaging may be helpful, the diagnostic methods licensed acupuncturists are trained with are not reliant on them. Imaging and tests frequently ignore energetic phenomena and their causes in your body. Even if found, conventional methods are not adept in treating them. This leads to the chronic non-treatment of persistent problems. You can also be helped for respiratory issues, nasal congestion, headaches, shoulder tension, back ache, common cold, insomnia and sleep problems, fatigue and lethargy.

WHAT DO ACUPUNCTURISTS MEAN BY "ENERGY?"

Acupuncturists can treat acute and chronic ailments that have a physical, energetic, and emotional nature. Sometimes patients who have seen doctors and done extensive imaging and examination are still unable to find what is wrong with them. Just as emotions are not tangible, energy in the body is also not tangible. In fact, emotions are a form of energy that have a predictable pattern of moevement. Because your energy influences your physical body, it is important to make sure it is flowing properly. Acupuncture is just one way to affect or "steer" the body's energy towards wellness.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME IN?

How often you need to come in for treatment depends on the nature and severity of your problem. Longer standing problems require longer treatment. Don't put off booking an appointment, it only makes things worse. Once chronic, the course of treatment naturally takes longer. ...read

HOW ARE ACUPUNCTURISTS EDUCATED?

Today, licensed acupuncturists undertake three to four years of extensive and comprehensive graduate training at nationally certified schools. The coursework adds up to 2000 hours and over 1100 supervised clinical hours. All acupuncturists must pass a national exam and meet strict guidelines to practice in every state.

Not all healthcare professionals who offer acupuncture have this training. Physical therapists and chiropractors can take short courses to offer acupuncture or "dry-needling." Medical Doctors are also eligible to take similar courses, however the brevity of such certifications does not offer the same depth of experience or knowledge for the practitioner.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DRY NEEDLING & ACUPUNCTURE

Dry needling is a method of acupuncture where needles are inserted into a point of pain. This is one of the many methods licensed acupuncturists are qualified to practice. A practitioner formally trained in acupuncture learns this as the first method to alleviate pain. As his/her training continues, he/she learns other methods to affect the area of pain without using a local needle, often with more dramatic results and especially when local needling has not produced a therapeutic effect.
